Hi there! My name is DB. Here’s a little bit about me…
I'm 28 years old and been writing in some capacity since I was five: from comics on folded printer paper to imaginary stories to act out in my parent’s backyard (usually a Star Wars rip-off, armed with a plastic Obi-Wan lightsaber or a wooden Aikido sword). The first time I played a guitar I realized all I wanted in life was to write songs for a living. I haven't been able to put down the pen since. Everything you hear started with me sitting on my couch with an acoustic guitar or jamming with my younger brother in our family basement.
I released an EP on a whim back in 2018 to explore sonically and look inward a bit more. Fast forward to February 2019, an unexpected trip to the hospital served as quite the wake-up call. The situation: exhaustion. The root cause: “off-the-charts anxiety and depression”. Thus began a two year rebuild of self. While it would be wonderful to the say the next chapter was “and everything got better,” the truth is it meant more personal lows: lots of therapy, a break up with a long-term partner, more illness, socio-political unrest, and COVID-19.
My new single It's Gonna Get Better (Right?) began as a freestyle, which Xstitch transformed into a banger. Both a reflection on 2020 and a yearning (dare I say “hope”?) for better days, it is the first release leading up to my debut album (expected late 2021/early 2022).
I can't wait to see where this journey takes us.
